Rediscovering Potential through the Race for Diversity Programme

At a school in Leeds, one student’s journey highlights the transformative power of the Race for Diversity programme. Previously excluded from another school due to challenges they faced; this student found a new opportunity to thrive through our initiative. When introduced to the Race for Diversity programme, their teachers were amazed by the student’s engagement. They embraced every opportunity, participating enthusiastically in discussions and workshops centred around the exciting world of motorsport. The student’s engagement reached new heights during the programme’s highlight event—a Team Sport STEM Day. Throughout the day, they demonstrated remarkable focus and positivity, actively engaging in each hands-on activity. This experience allowed them to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. The Race for Diversity programme provided a platform for this student to rediscover their confidence and realize their potential. This success story underscores our belief that, with the right support and opportunities, every student can overcome challenges and thrive.

Championing Inclusion at a MotoGP Event

In September 2024, a community member from our programme achieved a remarkable milestone by hosting a panel discussion on the 'Importance of Inclusion in Motorsport' at a prestigious MotoGP event. Their passion for driving change in the motorsport community shone brightly as they led the conversation alongside renowned speakers, including Maria Costello MBE and Richard Morris. The panel tackled critical topics surrounding inclusivity in motorsport, sparking meaningful dialogue and inspiring attendees. Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with audience members praising the panel's quality and the host's inspiring presence. This opportunity was not only a personal achievement for the participant but also a testament to the importance of amplifying diverse voices in shaping the future of motorsport. By fostering these vital conversations, they helped highlight the power of inclusion in driving the industry forward.

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024

A group of students had the opportunity to gain firsthand experience of the world of motorsport by attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed. During this experience, students had the opportunity to hear and see the different career and educational pathways in the sport through engaging conversations with teams and organisations present. One teacher said, “I know that all the students went home so much more informed about the world of motorsport and inspired by the energy that everyone involved seemed to have for the industry.” As a result of this visit, students gained confidence in pursuing a related STEM subject.

Our involvement with Motorsport UK over the last year means we have a great insight into the aims and objects of the various projects, Race for Diversity. We have attended 2 events to date as a group of diverse students and thoroughly enjoyed the experiences as we gained more insights into the various jobs available in motorsports for all genders and races.
